About

1886, Montana.

Opal Whitfield is a brilliant but scattered bookworm with a penchant for inserting herself into dangerous police investigations. Although her line of work is tending record books for local businesses, her focus leans towards the town’s rumor mill and mooning over her friend Daniel Smith. When a strange logbook is discovered in Boston, it seems to be the perfect case for Opal’s skills as she quickly realizes the book contains a secret code.

Like his brothers, Daniel is haunted by the past. As the Sheriff of Hope, Montana, he spends half his time chasing Opal away from danger and the other half dodging her advances. He’s afraid to love her, but he can’t leave her alone, either. As Opal takes on the biggest and most dangerous challenge of her life, all he can do is try and keep her safe.

Can Opal bring down a crime syndicate that has baffled the Boston Police Department for years? And can Daniel let go of his ghosts and give into his feelings for Opal?

Although the story is old fashioned, The Maxwell Brides Series contains violence, adult language and themes, and descriptions of physical intimacy. It is intended for mature readers.

Praise for this book

Opal is such a different character than the other women in this series. She was a friend first and blossomed into her own personality that captivated Daniel. The mystery of Mr. Benson was sad but brought Opal to her true calling. One of the best of this series.

This series has been deeply riveting. I found the stories so engrossing that I became entrenched in each book. Opal was emotional and fixated in her quest as was Daniel. The Maxwell Group has come home. Thanks for the experience Krissyann Granger.
